Johnny English Reborn

Johnny English Reborn

Johnny English Reborn is the 2nd in the action comedy series following the loveable MI7 agent played by Rowan Atkinson.

This film was highly enjoyable for all ages sticking to what made the original succesful to such a large audience it contained laughs galore throughout whilst being suitable for ages without seeming childish.

Whilst simple its running joke involving a chinese cleaner was funny throughout and the odd twist made it even better with it not just being aimed at kids

Overall I enjoyed this film more than many this year and was highly amusing throughout. A film that should definitely be a trip out for kids this half term and also worth a trip for any teens or adults with free time highly enjoyable for all.

This earns it a rating of 8/10 highly amusing and enjoyable for all genuinely one of my favourites of this autumn. Yet again some magic from Rowan Atkinson on the big screen.

Hope this was useful. Please feedback! :)

Despicable Me

Despicable Me

Despicable Me is a fun family animation about an evil scientist starring Steve Carell, Jason Segel and Russel Brand.

This all star cast comes together in a highly enjoyable film for all ages. Whilst obviously aimed at younger viewers it isn't one to endure for those older but one to join in the enjoyment in a very well made and cast animation.

This has all the making of a classic animation hit of recent years despite being produced by illumination entertainment seemingly new boys on the block to me.

However despite not being world renown you could be fooled into thinking this is disney or pixar such is the quality of this film.

Overall for teens and adults I'd rate this at 7/10 a highly enjoyable animation but for kids I recon it deserves a 9/10 ticks all the major boxes for a kiddy classic a must watch for those of the right age!

Worlds Greatest Dad

Worlds Greatest Dad

World's Greatest Dad was a dark comedy starring Robin Williams in which his son dies during a mastrubation accident and in shame his father covers it up leading to a rise in his dead sons popularity and fame.

Despite a crude start seemingly unecessary it did not proceed in the rest of the film and instead coasting along mildly amusing me as a viewer but no real laugh out loud or over memorable moments.

Whilst this is a comedy it was only mildly amusing although it kept u amused at this standard throughout it didn't stand out for its comedy but to me it was heart warming and Robin Williams portrayed his role as one of those dads that always gives in very well making me feel sorry for him from the off.

However this film was also eye opening as it shows how when someone dies alarmingly people who never liked them before suddenly act like their best friend showing how 2 faced a lot of us humans can be without even realising.

This film had a very fitting ending and was a film that kept me entertained throughout but not neccesarily memorable overall its definitely worth a watch whilst not a great its a fun watch especially when watching on sky movies for free like me its definitely worth the time to watch it but whilst I enjoyed it I wouldn't go out of my way to watch it.

If it's on TV record it and you'll enjoy watching it when you have nothing to do or it would be something good to rent for a night in but by no means should you go out your way to watch this.

Overall it is good fun but nothing special getting it a rating of 6.5/10 from me!

Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy

Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy

Just got back from the late showing of Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy at my local cineworld tonight. After hearing such great news about the film I went in with great expectations. This was further increased by the all star British cast of Gary Oldman, Colin Firth, Tom Hardy and John Hurt.

However I think I may of set these expectations to high as the film went along its way. Whilst however there was nothing majorly wrong with the film and there were some fine performance and excellent screenplay throughout there was that little something missing from the film that extra ooomph as some may call it.

This may be just because I was expecting to much but I felt dissapointed with this film and had predicted the mole from early on in the film from purely the process of elimination. However the film did have an extremely well crafted feel and an extremely good finish to the film.

However this is a case of a film that doesn't put a step wrong but doesn't have that little bit extra of required edge to be one of those top films remembered for years.

Overall this was an ejoyable film but not as great as many reviews have made it seem definitely not in the standard of a classic more an enjoyable well thought out tense drama which whilst enjoyable in a few months time I'll remember little about. This leads me to give this an overall rating of 7/10 for this personal and tense British drama.

Please give feedback thanks!

Old School

Old School

Old School is a comedy about 3 middle aged men trying to recapture there youth in the creation of a fraternity despite the obstacles in there way.

This storyline whilst remarkably basic and predictable gives hilarious results from director Todd Phillips who has since gone onto produce such films as the hangover and due date but this is up there with his modern classics despite being made all the way back in 2003.

This also has an all star cast of Luke Wilson, Will Ferrell, Vince Vaughan and cameos from Elisha Cuthbert and Sean William Scott. This cast makes for a movie full of laugh out loud moments and whilst at times outragous and on occasion crude it does not cross the line to much making it a very entertaining film.

Also the chemistry between all the characters was exceptional further adding to the laughter.

For me this was simply one of the funniest films I've seen for a while with the unique style it seems only Todd Phillips can produce.

Not quite as good as his latest film but still for me an exceptional comedy certainly worth watching. This earns it from me a rating of 9/10 whilst simple in storyline and script somehow it all manages to come together into a thoroughly entertaining film!

Cyrus

Cyrus

Cyrus is a comedy about a recently divorced guy who meets the women of his dreams but then meets her overprotective son.

This has and all star comedy cast of John C Reilly, Marisa Tomei and Jonah Hill.

The film started off as an amusing comedy as the 2 meet but as the film goes on it gets stranger and stranger with the storyline not really progressing in any true direction. This isn't helped by a frankly dreadful performance from Jonah Hill despite John C Reilly's best attempts to amuse the viewers it just quite simply is not funny enough to be a comedy hit as I was personally perplexed at what an earth was happening and just how strange this whole film was.

This seemed a rushed film with a shabby script hoping a few well known actors along with Marisa Tomei would bring enough viewers however the film itself I quite simply found boring and lost my concentration a number of times.

Overall other than the odd snigger this just wasn't funny enough to make it due to its poor script and performances from some of the actors leading to this becoming a comedy flop in my books. The potential was possibly there but the effort certainly was not.

This gets a rating of 4/10 from me wouldn't recommend it to anyone quite frankly is an hour and a half I'll never get back.

Hope you find this useful please feedback!

Easy A

Easy A

Easy A starring the stunning Emma Stone, Amanda Bynes and a cameo from Lisa Kudrow is a well made emotive thinking film which emotionally involves its audience.

Whilst it is advertised as a comedy it is more a witty romantic drama about a late teen at high school ruining her reputation through a series of lies to help people out. However whilst the odd chuckle and being whitty it is only mildly humerous and more focused on the storyline and eventual teen romance aspect.

However if your a guy dont dismiss this as a boring chick flick as I myself am a 16 year old guy and I was entertained by this film and felt attached to the main character olive (emma stone) due to the what I view as a great script storyline and cast. Also this isn't one of those soppy girly films but more a film aimed at girls but also enjoyable for guys if not just for the fact it has the beautiful Emma Stone who is one of my favourite actresses. Also it is an imaginable situation at an american high school and theres just something about this well made film that appeals to both genders.

Overall I enjoyed this film and thought Emma Stone put in yet another brilliant performance whilst more praise must be reserved for the writer and director who have made this a particuarly good film. Therefore i rate this at 7/10 for us guys but for girls think it would be a closer to a 9/10 rating. More for girls than guys but still really enjoyable for either gender definitely worth a watch!

Please post feedback on what you think of this review thanks guys! :)

Apocalypto

Apocalypto

Whilst a remarkably unknown cast star in this film the big name of Mel Gibson as director and writer of the film immediatly gives this action adventure film a large appeal. Also a strong lead performance from Rudy Youngblood (Jaguar Paw) further bolsters the standard of the film.

This film is based on the historical rise and fall of the mayans. This area is widely untouched by fellow films with not any well known films reaching the box office about the mayans giving it a further edge about it as it enters what is in someways new territory for the film industry.

Apocalypto starts in an amusing yet strange manner yet immedietly intrigued me as a viewer as during the next 2hours and a bit not once did I drop into boredom in anyway like in many films this long. This is a major success for the film as it keeps the readers attention in this fast paced adventure.

However this film isn't just pure action no storyline the film is highly emotive and whilst extremely gory most of this is used to effect and attaches the viewer to characters well. Meanwhilst the majority of these special effects are very good especially for a film from 2007 giving the film a very well finshed feel despite a very odd underwater birth scene towards the end of the film which slightly ruined the credibility of the special effect.

The reason this film is such a success for me as whilst at times it can become farfetched to say the least it stay just about realistic whilst also keeping a fast pace and the viewers intrest with enough twists and turns to keep you thinking.

Also unlike many films it brings itself to a believable and well thought out finish.

However this film is remarkably violent and gory from the start and some scenes may be upsetting to some viewers with massacres of tribes involving women and children so if you don't like blood and gore dont watch this!

But whilst this is the case the blood and guts widely isn't needless and is used at times in an emotive manner so don't think it is a pointless blood bath as it is not.

Overall this was a fast paced action adventure with an unknown cast who performed remarkably well in their roles under Mel Gibson whilst gruesome and at times far fetched the film is thoroughly entertaining and worth viewing from me its a 8/10 if u enjoy action adventures widely you should enjoy this.

Contagion

Contagion

Contagion has an undeniably strong cast with Gwyneth Paltrow, Matt Damon, Kate Winslet, Laurence Fishbourne, Jude Law and even a sneaky even if just a cameo appearance the dad from malcolm in the middle (highlight of the film for me). These actors all fill their positions adequately although i couldn't really take Bryan Cranston (malcolms dad) or the tosh on Laurence Fishbourne seriously throughout the film.

However despite these great hollywood to listers in the film who don't get me wrong perform well in this film to just werent enough to really get this film going on as it staggered on at 1st being intriuging as the very well thought storyline gradually progressed. However this film never really comes to the boil as it staggers on.

However whilst this film didn't really excite me as a viewer it did just about enough with the story to keep me intrigued to the end without me thinking I want to go home to often.
The major fault for me in this film is that it has taken itself very seriously in what could be compared to a documentary for some. Whilst this can be a pro to some viewers dont make the same mistake as me thinking its a tense thriller as that it is not but more an intresting but slow factual film based on a possible scenario of a severe flu epidemic on this planet.

Whilst I slate it for this if you enjoy that style of film it is close to perfect whilst slow it is well thought out and ends well summing up the entire film.

My rating is 6/10 for contagion whilst I was dissapointed with the film there was nothing dramatically wrong with it with a strong cast and storyline just to slow for what I perceive as many of us and far to serious if you like something serious and enjoy documentaries or biology I suggest its worth seeing but if your looking for a thriller or excitement I warn you now stay away!

Finally feel free to send feedback on what is my 1st entry to this blog hope you enjoy and find this useful! :)
